Who will do all their christmas shopping in the january sales for next year?

Hi All,

I have done all my Christmas Shopping for this year over the last 4 months. I just wanted to know who will do theirs in the sales for next year, as i am really tempted to just go out and buy it all in the sales and just put it away! Do you think its worth it? Or not a good idea?

That's what I did - I bought pretty much everything is January and carried on buying bits and bob's in feb, march & so on that's been in the sales.

I write down what Ive bought and who it's for and then stash it away. To be honest If I hadn't of done that then I would be stuffed as I don't have the money to spend now like I did then.

I think I might brake it down into small chunks for next year. If I see something cheap buy it and hide it type thing, Only problem is I can not keep a secret for long lol.

Was thinking for next year of saving up free samples and stuff like that.
 Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.

I do half of mine in the jan sales. Boots have a fab 75% off sale after Xmas. I also pick things up through the year when I see something that I think someone will love at a bargain price. Mine all goes up in the loft & comes down now to start wrapping (have already started wrapping). The one thing I owuld say is have a book & write everyone down & wite presents against them as you buy or you may forget you have bought things & but again for them!

  • Lol, i'm not good at keeping that kind of secret, i've already shown my sister her xmas pressy for this year!!! i have two small children so will definately get them all of theirs in the sales, husband always wants xbox 360 games so not as easy, but will get other things in the sales.

I want to do hampers for everyone else, so was thinking of boots and that doing their sales then grabbing loads of bits to seperate into hampers.

I have done some hampers this year, just need to take photos and post them on the hamper thread!
  • Thanks will write all the bits down! should have done that this year, luckly i started to wrap mine up about a month ago (just to keep on top) and obviously add up what i have brought! i'm so glad i did because i would have carried on buying for my 2 little ones and spent a fortune in the process, which they do not need at the ages of 3 and 1.
  • I did a bulk of mine in the January sales, mostly in boots and amazon. I have been picking up bits throughout the year, using vouchers in boots. Im so glad i did, so all i have to worry about now is food, drink and decorations! yay:)

I've got a spreadsheet where I've penciled in future presents for people... it's great for planning, especially for kids where I've had a good idea for a pressie but they're not old enough yet!

I update it whenever I have a flash of inspiration - and I'm really pleased with my ideas so far (even if I do say so myself ;)) as they're a lot more thoughtful when I'm not under pressure! I also subtly drop things into conversation early in the year if I need to find anything out.

I'll be armed with the shopping list I carry around when I hit the sales... saves me from impulse buys or hoarding 'bargains'!

I had never really thought about it until finding this site and this forum. It has already given me the ideas for hampers (which has saved me loads).

I always buy my wrapping paper and cards in the sales, but next year I will be looking out for bargains that can be put away as presents.

I already have a spreadsheet that lists what I have bought for who and how much, so it will just be a case of adapting it to include my sale purchases and I may even get the sewing machine out and start some crafting next year too.

Thanks ladies for all your inspiration :T
  • my husband was made redundant last april, and so my kids had stuff for xmas we bought a toy a week/month depending on when we went to big tesco's. it was so much easier than paying all in one go.

this year i started in january - stocking fillers were last years items in shops and none cost me more than 50p as reduced, most were 10p. and i have bought throughout the year for main presents. i will certainly be doing the same in future.

All my family birthday's are Feb + March + April (except me stuck out in August) and my friends have managed to have kids with birthdays in Feb + March, honestly I dont know how they managed it - so I use January sales for birthday pressies for everyone and then slowly stock pile xmass pressies from august (ish) onwards ;)
