Income support and mortgage paperwork.

Friends ex has asked and been given the mortgage paperwork. We don't understand why she wants it or what she could do with it.

She is on income support and has been for a year. She has two small children.
He pays the full mortgage, plus child support direct to her.

What trouble could she cause by having the mortgage document?

not sure what damage she could do, as I didn't have to produce mortgage paperwork when we got ISMI for a couple of months last year.

is her name on the mortgage? if so, then I would say she's entitled to at least a copy as the lender will class her as jointly responsible for the debt. if not, then I'd say it's none of her business and it shouldn't have been given to her.

  • Do you think that it's possible that she's applying for help with the mortgage, although she doesn't actually pay it? If so, trouble will be coming her way, rather than any other!

just as aside you mention that he pays child support direct to her....does he pay it through standing order or another trackable means. If she is on IS she needs to declare this and there have been horror stories where the pwc has denied receiving maintenance rather than admit benefit fraud (not saying this is the case here)
sounds like she may well be trying to get the mortgage interest help

You are all assuming the worst about her with no apparent reason! She may have been infirmed re the fact she is eligible for her half of the mortgage interest and have every intention of telling him-I certainly would.

It may be a compliancy issue where all info has been asked for again (I had to sho details of my mortgage when I applied for IS and was told at my last jobseekers update that I may have to produce up to date details at any time.)
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

I think the above is a very valid point. IS is only around £60 a week so if he's paying the mortgage and child support direct I cant see how she still qualifies for IS unless they dont know about the financial support.

I can't see why she needs the paperwork as the mortgage is already paid.

The child maintenance is paid direct into her bank account and is traceable.
