First, it'll help if you tell us the make and model of your router and your OS (Windows XP?) etc.
From the wired connection, go into the router's web config screens and make sure that wireless access point is enabled, broadcast of name (SSID) is enabled and security is disabled.
Next, make sure the wireless network adapter on your laptop is enabled: Start - Connect To - Show all connections. If Wireless Network Connection says disabled, right-click and Enable.
Still in the Network Connections screen, disable the Local Area Connection. That's the wired network adapter and disabling it is like unplugging the network cable, but it means you don't have to physically disconnect it while we're testing the wireless connection.
Right-click Wireless Network Connection and click View Available Wireless Networks. It should show your router's network. If so, click Connect.
Report your results if none of the above steps works.0 -
This may work for you: START - Network Connections - add wireless network. Once you have configured the connection, you should be in business, your machine should connect automatically.
I say it may work because it doesn't on my laptop (IBM/Lenovo), which comes with a wireless connection manager, and once I have used that, the Windows Wireless Manager doesn't work any longer. If you can't get things to work using the Windows function, check whether you have something comparable from HP.
In any case, make sure you have your firewall active, and there is probably functionality in your router that allows you to specify the MAC address of your machine as the only machine allowed to connect.0 -

No, you don't need to set up another connection and you don't need any more equipment.
In Network Connections, double-click Wireless Network Connection to show its status. Post everything it says on the General and Support tabs.0 -

Who's a star then :T :T :T :T well done!! Enjoy the lack of cables!
If I were you, I wouldn't make any more changes now.......I stupidly installed all sorts of driver updates last night on my machine. Result was that my wireless connection didn't work any longer.....3 hours of investigation later, I decided to roll back to the previous version of the Intel wireless adapter and thankfully all sprang back to life. How old do I need to get before I understand if it ain't broke don't fix it :wall:0
