How to set up wireless router

I am using a desktop with Windows Xp, AOL 9 and broadband using BT Voyager 105.
I have just purchased a laptop with wifi and Windows Vista, and I have decided to purchase a Netgear DG834G wireless router.
I want to remove the BT modem, connect the router to the desktop by cable, and then set up the wireless connection to the laptop.
Is this easy to do? Do I just follow the AOL instructions for doing this?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.

No need to do anything other than plug in the desktop to the router then you will be online.
As you're laptop has a wireless card you will just search for your network and log in using the password you set.
To set up the router settings go to http://192.168.0.10 -
use the netgear instructions not the AOL ones.
you dont even need the AOL software.
just enter your AOL username and PW into the router setup.Get some gorm.0 -
Many thanks for your helpful replies.
Could I configure the router by connecting it to the laptop and then remove the cable and connect the router cable to the desktop. I hope this makes some sense.
