Hoping somebody can tell what I need:
I want to connect my sons 360 to a wired modem, My Broadband is working really well and i don't want to get wireless modem atm. I need about 8 mts of cable and I need to know what connections i need on each end.
Also what else do i need for him to go on xbox live cheaply!
Also if anybody can point me to the best place to buy from I would be very gratefull.

You can't. A wired modem needs to have drivers installed. There is no way to do this on the 360. Also in addition to that, even if it were possible, you'd not be able to use the internet at the same time. You could use Internet Connection Sharing if you've a network card in your PC and use a crossover network cable to connect the PC to the Xbox but whenever he went online, you'd need to have the PC on as well.
Just get a wireless modem and be done with it. Your broadband will work just as well.0 -
First off, you need a router. This will allow you to split the connection between PC and Xbox. Wireless routers are about the same price as hard wired though, so worth getting one in case you do decide to go wireless later.
Alternatively you could use the PC as a gateway for the Xbox. You'll need to have two ethernet ports on the PC though, so could end up buying a PCI ethernet card.
Whichever option you go for, you'll be looking at buying a 10m ethernet cable. (Xbox wireless dongle is £60 )
To get on Xbox live takes a subscription. Some games come with a free one month trial for xbox live gold, so use that first. You will automatically have live silver, which allows you to chat and download updates, but not to play games online against friends.
When finished, you need a subscription. MS charge £39.99 for 12 months, but you can buy them online (ebat etc) for around £23-£24.
As for where to buy, it all depends what you decide to go for.0 -
Oh silly me, i'm getting mixed up between a wired modem and a wired router. I was thinking i had a wired router, but alas I haven't.
Thanks for help anyway, i was trying to do it cheaply for Christmas.0 -

do you mean the modem supplied by your isp, you can do it but the computer wouldnt be able to connect as the 360 would be connected to the modem but with a router the pc would be connected to the internet same time your son would be on the 360, or you get a 360 adaqpter and a wireless router and use wireless0
