Oh...and its not the oil that catches fire but the mechanism inside the machine.

Lesser of 2 evils comes to mind.

We progressed over the years from an open chip pan to safer electric chip fryers to, in my view anyway, an even safer actifry and despite Watchdog I still want another.

I would suggest that most of the innards are flame retardant and should it fail then I would expect some short term flames (all retained in the device) and a fair bit of smoke then its all over. No hot/flammable oil to deal with!!!!

So fair dos to Watchdog for bringing the reliability to the fore, but surely these are much safer (and healthier) than the alternatives.
    They are overpriced though.
  • Great bit of kit. Use mine all the time. Worth the money 3 times over. Healthy chips that the kids love. No that ive ever had one but no stinking oil smells around the house. Oh and the fire risk well just keep on eye on it when its cooking its only 30 minutes. How can this not be safer than a red hot pan of boiling oil?
  • So it takes half an hour to cook chips, instead of about six minutes in a deep fat fryer? :rotfl:
Thanks to all who post constructively.
