Are there any fridge/freezers which have separate controls?

There is only space in our kitchen for a combined fridge/freezer but when our current model is replaced I'd like one which has separate controls, so that when we're away on holiday for example, I can empty the fridge section and switch it off to save money.
Do such models exist?

Most modern fridge freezers have a single compressor - in these cases you'll only be able to switch the whole thing off and on in one go. There probably are more expensive models available that have them separate. Alternative is to buy separates and just stack them on top of each other. I do doubt however that the additional cost of doing this (and loss of space inside the fridge to accommodate the extra compressor) will be paid off by the occasional holiday's worth of electricity.

I dont think you can turn fridge off but certainly right down temperature from 1-5 (3) being very cold)
  • You could try a search for 'holiday mode' (or vacation...).

I have an AEG which offers the following:

Holiday mode. The holiday mode sets the temperature of the fridge cabinet to 14°C without affecting the freezer. This is very useful particularly on occasions where the fridge will not be used for an extended period of time. The temperature set by the holiday mode allows the preservation of food such as butter and eggs and it prevents the creation of unpleasant odours whilst the door remains closed for a long period of time. At a push of a button your appliance can be returned to its normal operating temperature.

p.s. Although normally expensive, I got my AEG f/f half price from John Lewis when they had a 'Clearance' in the summer. It has scratches down the right hand side which can't be seen as that's where it sits against the wall. Fully guaranteed still.

I'm not sure which other makes offer this function - as it wasn't on my list of criteria when I was doing my 'research' earlier in the year. Sorry I can't help more....
