I have been a full time mum for 10 years to 4 children. Hubby has been in the same job for the 10 years. Recently, his company would not replace staff that were leaving so he had to work twice as hard. He did request part time hours on many occasion, but that too fell on deaf ears. he wanted part time hours as i was struggling to cope with 4 kids and he wanted a bit of a break from the stress at work. Company said no, so he served his notice and has left.
Now i get childrens tax credits, but what would he be able to claim, and do we claim jointly or he claims by himself. Benefits helpline were too busy today and i was on hold for so long I gave up. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

I think he would be entitled to claim Jsa if he was made redundant not so sure if you will get anything if he just left off his own bat. There could be a perriod of time where you can't claim anything from jsa then be able to get something from them and the claim would be a joint one. Make sure you inform the child tax that your circumstances have changed and you might get more money from them. Definately speak to the benefits agency and see what they suggest. Possibly even speak to the CAB about the reasons for leaving his job. I hope this helps, maybe someone else can shed more light for you. I hope you get this sorted out soon.Ipoints- Cashed in for prezzybox and amazon items - 1,983 now. £50 Amazon voucher

If he hand a notice in, he wouldn't get any JSA straight away but he is better off claimed Income Support instead because he don't have to kept signing on every week. Just tell job centre, he find it too stress and struggle with 4 kids with you, I am sure they will give him Income Support, don't forget to apply for council tax and housing benefit because you both will be entitled to (because of claiming income support)0

Unbelievable. He leaves a perfectly good, albeit busy, job in the middle of a recession because you can't cope with the four children you chose to have - and the tax payer is supposed to pay you all!
Fcuking hell - what is this country - and this forum coming to???????????
Oh and I fully expect this post to be deleted because I've not held your hand, soothed your brow and told you the quickest way of fleecing the tax payer of even more money - although I will say a few more kids will be worth a few quid.0 -

It's unlikely that you'll be entitled to income support. The best thing he could do is go back and grovel to his employer and see if they'll let him withdraw his resignation.0 -
i agree and as i've said before it's a lifestyle choice these days = fed up with early rises and working - give it up and go on benefits - get most things free
and i personally would be MORE stressed at home with 4 kids and my partner!Time is the best teacherShame it kills all the students

why would you be claiming Job Seekers Allowance when you're not actively seeking a job?

Indeed what is happening in this stupid country where we allow people to make the choice of whether they pay their way in life or expect the taxpayer to do it.
We had 4 children, all under seven as it happened but I looked after them and worked from when the baby was 6 weeks old, while my husband also worked full time. Unless any of them have real disabilites then surely it is not such a problem to look after them. i assume they or at least some of them go to school.
I have no doubt at all that you will all get benefits of some sort, probably better if your bloke gets himself off to the doctor with a bad back or depression, sounds as if he isn't bothered about working.0
