    Why, do you earn 41k?

£41k is where the 40% threshold is currently set.

I do pay part of my salary at the 40% rate yes but i wouldn't say i had a high income. More of a middle rate income. I still watch my pennies just like someone would do on half my salary.

The maximum taxation in this country is 41% (40%+1% N.I) however because of the P.A and B-R of tax, not 1 person in the country will be paying anymore than 40% of their gross salary in taxation. In some european countries, 50% is the norm (Netherlands for example)

I feel there is room for the government to play around with higher rate taxation in order to cut the BR of tax for the majorities.

Pi*s off 5% of the working population, but please 95%.....Politics;)

the guys who designed the structure of the investment vehicles (dodgy credit and loan products) that the banks used to sell their complex products that now cannot be price managed are the source of the problem.

if they are to blame i do not know - i would go to the regulators but then again they can only do so much.

When you say dodgy credit and loan products did you mean fraudulant? Or was it just 'dodgy'...or perhaps 'owned' LOL :)

the people that risk-assessed, packaged and even priced this debt only priced it thinking of today - they never priced it thinking of what could happen or may happen, now it has happened.

and you're right about the greed thing, it's human nature unfortunately.

for example i turn around to my boss and say - i'm selling off this debt for X amount and it's worth 30% of that. my boss turns around and says have you risk assessed the debt. i say yes, end of story.

it's far too easy to say that it was all ok. there was no-one really regulating it. in addition there were large profits and commissions which were the most appealing part of it.

So if you haven't assesed it but said yes that you have is that not fraudulent? And was fraud not then commited in order to win those commissions?

    Chucky/Drbeat....

Come on....a bit childish hurling tit for tat insults dont you think?? Reminds me of the playground days.

The bigger person is the 1 that refuses to be brought down to that level and as far as im concerned as soon as you start throwing personal insults around you've already lost the battle and any respect you had in your posting. (It just makes you look pre-pubescent)

Handbags away now ladies and lets just get on with the thread;) Kiss and make up for god sake, this is dire reading.

I never insulted the guy? That's his strategy: agression and insults i.e. bringing my parents into the debate...!!!!!! is that about? If you check his post history he actually started out as a nice person and then got bitter and bitter by the month.

The problem is that you're too aggressive in your responses and have an annoying habit of mis-qouting people. Every now and then someone has to stand up to you and when they do you shy off only to come back and mis-qoute people again??? I actually wonder where you have been for the past eight years - denying mortgage fraud (even though I wrote credit fraud - mis-qouted again!) really takes the biscuit. Then once the evidence is staring you in the face you then have the naivity to play it down and then hurl insults at !!!!!!. Do a bloody google search on mortgage and credit fraud - only then will you see the scale of the problems! It happened here as well the US.

Oh and by the way, when I say credit or mortgage fraud it includes those commited by the average Joe and criminal gangs! It has one important side-effect: to push up prices!

Perhaps Ime being Cynical, but I cant help but think this is an attempt by Crash Gordon to save his own neck, one last throw of the dice befor the Election, if it fails then the Tories will be thoe ones picking up the Pieces..along with the rest of us ... for many years to come !! ..
