MOT - mileage went down???!!

Help!
I recently bought a car for my girlfriend and everything looked fine apart from there was only the last MOT - none of the previous ones. I was a bit suspicious so I called up the helpline number on the back to make sure it was legit and for the car and it was. All ok, or so I thought....
I found the government website where you can check all previous electronic MOT's for your car. I entered my details and retrieved all the previous MOT's... now heres my confusion... the current MOT says the car has covered 45,000 miles, yet on the government website the MOT before the current one says it has covered 90,000 miles!!! so the one before last is 90,000 miles and the current one is 45,000! how can this be the case? the current MOT is legitimate as I have called up DVLA to check... any ideas because im a bit worried! thanks.

If the clock only goes to 100,000 it may be on second time round.

Its a 2001 car and has a digital display so I presume it should go over 100,000?

my mum's car went for mot, and they reset the mileage by mistake...this had to be recorded somewhere official but I can't remember what she said about it. Maybe it's on the mot certificates themselves. Anyhow when the car was passed on, they were automatically aware of the mileage having been reset and also of what the mileage was at that point

I'd be asking your local trading standards officer for his opinion. you should find the number on your council''s website.

The digital one's are easily clocked unfortunately. Appropriate cable, software and a pc. Paying more for a car with less miles isn't the thing to do anyway IMO. Buy on condition, not what the clock on the dash says. High mileage can = moneysaving if it has been well maintained.

DVLA wouldn't be able to advise you as they don't have anything to do with MOT's, it's VOSA that you need to speak with - 0300 123 9000

Its possible that the MOT tester entered incorrect mileage on the vts computer.
    Sorry :) :money:
