MOT - Old to New certificate- lose time
I've just had MOT done and because my old certificate was under the old system and new one is computerised they haven't been able to allow the month where you could get it dated same as old one (so could do it month in advance). Apparently if you're swapping new for new you get that extra time again so it's just when old to new. What I'm trying to say is if you planned to get your MOT done a month in advance you will lose a month if it goes on to the new computerised system from the old, so check. :rudolf:

rubbish you can still get the extra month post dated on the new system as long as you had the old style certificate with you at the time of the test .
the tester has the option just before he prints out your new certificate to enter the old cert. number and the post date
i know cos im a tester
cheers hope this helps
p.s you should go back and ask them to print you a new one out with the extra month on it0 -
Thanks for that info, I'll get back to them again. I did have the old certificate with me so they should have done it then. :rudolf:Torgwen..........

The onus is on you to present the cert to enable post dating, not on the tester to ask for it.
If you now return to ask for a post dated cert you may have a fee to pay (the garage have to buy the certs to begin with -pad fee- and they would be down the profit that issuing the new cert would bring them). It may not be worth it for what will amount to a few weeks at most now.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
They had my MOT in their possession as I presented it when I first went there. I will certainly not be paying a fee! :rudolf:ohreally wrote:The onus is on you to present the cert to enable post dating, not on the tester to ask for it.

It would not cost the MOT station anything as it is not a new certificate, they only pay for new certificates, this would be a 'duplicate' and hence would not cost them a test slot. Even if it did they are only £1.44 each !0

Oh, so the garage would simply 'alter' the cert that a customer wants changed. Of course they don't, a new cert will have be issued, are you suggesting the garage takes the revenue now lost to issue that cert from their own pocket. I am well aware they can't charge for a lost test slot and if you re-read my post you'll find i neither suggested they could or indeed should charge for this.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Hey calm down, just trying to help ! !
no they dont just 'alter it' as you know thats illegal, they just press a button and reprint it on the printer ?!?, hasnt got to be a tester that does it, it would not cost them a test slot or a certificate fee, thats all i am trying to say
sorry i spoke, wont do it again ...................... merry xmas x x0
