Credit Card For Business Use

I'm thinking of getting a credit card,
I've never had one before but just lately my business sales have dropped drastically and I don't think it will get much better until march/april 09. It happens every year in my line of work and we usually cope fine but the credit crunch has made this year a little harder.
I'm confident things will be ok by spring but need some security to get through a tough winter.
What's the deal with using a credit card for a business?
Is it a bad idea or what?
Can actual cash be obtained or is just for buying material things?

any advice would be great

thanks in advance.
