I think he would be very silly not to, it can be done online in seconds, pay by credit card or debit card and then peace of mind if not stolen and no HP, even bigger sigh of relief if there is anything wrong that he has not parted with his cash, which by the way I HOPE he is NOT paying with! I would not part with that amount in cash to be honest with you. Some Days are Diamonds Some Days are Stones,Sometimes the hard times won't leave meBSC 162:beer:Banktupt 22 Oct 2008 at 10am!0

Thankyou again, I hope he reads this thread, as he drew all the cash out to pay for it:eek::eek: .
I think it's a case of turning a blind eye as it's a car he really wants and he would not listen to the risks if the seller went bankrupt.
I was trying to explain BR is a case by case situation and the Or does have the right to claim back any undervalue and are more likely do so if there has been other significant assets sold. In an all or nothing kind of way.
He thinks because a friend of his recently brought a car in similar circumstances (seller went br) he should be ok. But again trying to explain to him that it's all at the OR's discretion fell on deaf ears.
I just hope he sees sense after reading it is possible and not me making it up:D and at the very least does a formal hp check. But yes he was going to pay cash:eek: and risk and angry Or claiming the car back if they do go BR:eek:0 -
He needs to check this car is not on HP or he wont only lose the car he will also lose the cash, or have to go after the seller for the money back, which he aint gonna get is he!
It is ILLEGAL to sell a car on HP but people do it every day of the week, the loser is the buyer ! so I hope he reads this thread as well. As for giving out that amount of cash he must be MAD. He should be paying by cheque, getting the checks done on the car etc first.
What will he do if he has the police drop by and the car is STOLEN! better to be safe than sorry, this is not a mere couple of hundred quid is it! MEN I ask you and CARS.. blinded by the lights they are!!
We all want a bargain, but hopefully he will get things checked out first.
If this person then goes BR he may end up having to either pay what the car is actually worth, ie the difference to the OR, or giving the car back to him if the OR chooses to pursue the matter!
Make sure he gets a bill of sale for goodness sake!:rotfl:Some Days are Diamonds Some Days are Stones,Sometimes the hard times won't leave meBSC 162:beer:Banktupt 22 Oct 2008 at 10am!0 -
I have to say that my first thought after reading the OP's first couple of posts is that the OP's friend is being scammed.
Deal looks too good to be true, so the buyer asks why the low price. The answer fits in with everything we're reading about in the press - credit crunch, people struggling etc.
It's plausible enough - as most good scams are.
If I were the buyer, I wouldn't be worrying about the OR right now. I'd be carrying out the kind of checks that have already been mentioned - and getting the vehicle thoroughly checked out mechanically. I would not be paying cash, and I would not be doing it tonight.
Ain't that just like a woman :rolleyes:0 -
Yes Cool we have SENSE, we dont part with money on a car and get scammed! Some Days are Diamonds Some Days are Stones,Sometimes the hard times won't leave meBSC 162:beer:Banktupt 22 Oct 2008 at 10am!0
