Talk Talk - Sky - Xbox

Hi

My broadband/landline contract with Talk Talk is done and I already have Sky TV, so I'm looking to swap to Sky. I've had no problems with Talk Talk, I'm just looking to save money.

I get a free wireless router as part of the deal if I change.

My son tells me that he can access the internet on his Xbox, which is in our living room with our normal computer equipment.

Is there something I can plug into the Xbox - is it a dongle? - so that my new wireless router can transmit internet signals to it? That way I can power my computer broadband and the Xbox at the same time - or do I have to use a cable?

Positive advice gratefully received! :o

You can buy a wireless broadband modem for the xbox360, however I dont believe there is a one like that for the original xbox.

you mean the 360 wireless adapter for the 360, as far as i know there wasnt 1 made for the original xbox but i think the OP is refering to the xbox 360 which is her sons,

You don't need to use wireless for the xbox 360 unless you particularly want / need to.

Most wireless routers have 4 or so ports in the back, so you can connect a network cable to different equipment (PC , Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3) and they can all use the connection at the same time.

If you do really want to go wireless, you need a wireless bridge. The official microsoft one costs £50-£60, while unofficial ones can range from £20-£40.

If it was for my decision, I'd buy some network cable (aim to pay no more than £1 a metre for larger lengths!) and put it under the carpet / out of sight.

  • Thanks very much for the responses.

I'm looking to avoid cable so I'll probably go for a wireless adapter.

Once that's in, I'll have to pay more for a "gold subscription"?? Blimey, what a rip-off!
