Terrible itch driving me bonkers!

Sorry if it is in the wrong place, but not sure where to ask, and I know that OSers usually have ane answer to every problem!
I've had this itchy patch, on my foot for a couple of weeks now. it doesn't itch all the time, but when it does it drives me mad! It started happening during the night, waking me up and keeping me awake for an hour or so, but now it's happening in the daytime too, and more frequently.
It is on the top of my foot, near the little toe. There is nothing there to be seen - not spots, lumps or anything, and the skin looks normal apart from when I scratch it so much it goes red and feels a bit sore!
I had a Dr's appt last week about something else, so asked about this too. The Locum did take a quick look but agreed with me that there was nothing visible to cause it, and said it would 'probably go away soon' - how helpful!
I've tried soaking foot in cold water and in warm water. Painting the area with calamine lotion. Even tried antiseptic cream in case there was something I couldn't see.......and in desparation tried haemerroid cream! (well it said it stopped itching! Actually it worked for about 10 minutes....)
I only wear socks with a high cotton content, and have so far avoided tights this year (I get psoriasis and sometimes can get this on my feet, which tights aggravate - but this is not like any psoriasis I've ever had before, and itches much worse!).
I know it sounds silly, but it is really driving me potty! and I'm really irritable 'cos it's keeping me awake. Even now I have taken my shoe off under my desk at work and am rubbing my feet together 'cos it itches so much.
Any advice or ideas, please, please, please?!?

I have used bicarbonate of soda diluted in the bath water for small children suffering from chicken pox, and it really calmed all the itchiness down for a while. That might help?0

Washing starch (in powder form!) diluted down in water is great for relieving an itch too - used to get bathed in it frequently as a child0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
