hobbie ideas?

hi there.
am i in need of picking all your brains:
i am a mother to an almost 1 year old DD and work 16hours a week. my OH has a hobbie which he enjoys every weekend - both days. I knew this when I got together with him and we had a baby together, but up until a bout a month or so ago i was happy with it. but something has clicked recently and i have realised that i need to get a "hobby" of my own!! -- which is where i need your help!?

I never actually participated in anything when i was younger that i could take up again, and we dont have a lot of money to throw about (OH's hobbie only cost him petrol money!) ......anyone have any idea's ofwhat i could do, even for one night a week, to get me out of the house? I have tried the gym - but i dpnt actually enjoy it, so no point me doing something i dont enjoy!!

Do you mean you actually feel the need to get a hobby or do you just need some 'me time' away from caring for your daughter and working like your OH does?

Could you not just meet up with some friends for coffee/chat for a few hours? - this is one of my favourite hobbies! ;)

Why not try an evening class. Some of them start in January though you will have missed the boat with those which started in September. So much choice.
I have a few hobbies but unfortunately they are all "at home", such as gardening and tapestry but every so often I go and do a night class. Last time it was sugar paste flowers (I was pretty rubbish at it really though, to inpatient).

I must admit I could do with something outside the house that's not too expensive so I will follow this thread for ideas.

Not all courses start in Sept/January. I'm doing one which starts tonight on Photoshop. It's only 5 weeks (was supposed to start last week but got put back a week......... which I found out when I turned up last week!)

A short course on something might be good for finding out whether you want to take it further or if it's not for you.

  • I did a 1 year flower arranging course - 1 night a week I really enjoyed it and now do arrangements for friends birthdays/anniverisary etc. We have a garden centre near by which does cheap cut flowers but it can work out expensive to buy the flowers if you have to go to a florist.

I did astronomy at an evening class a year or two ago - still in touch with some people from there though we don't get together much.

I need a hobby too - my OH is away 50% of weekends, but I need something flexible so I can be with him when he is around too - just can't think of anything (trying photography but not sure I'm any good at it!) Would like to do cooking or something but no good at the mo - I'[m trying to lose 5stone!

I have really enjoyed walking with the Ramblers. It sounds like you're left with the kids all weekend, though, since your husband already has a hobby then. But, walking is great fun, really, and even bad weather can add to the fun of it if you dress appropriately. The combination of fresh air, sunlight, exercise, and adult conversation made an immediate and noticeable improvement in my mood and my husband was only too happy to accommodate my desire to walk every other Saturday.

Now that I'm pregnant, walking isn't something I'm up to. I've started sewing, and I really do enjoy it. I got an affordable machine and started with a couple of easy patterns. It's been a lot of fun. You might like sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, etc....

Have you tried scrapbooking? That's a lot of fun, and I'm guessing you have a lot of photos of your baby to work with. You just need to be able to put all the little bits and bobs where the kid can't get into them.

    Here's what I do:

salsa classes, usually followed by club dancing afterwards, great way to meet people and learn something new. Fab fun

Yoga - great exercise, relaxing, and something you can also do at home

Learn an instrument - I learn piano (and music theory) and it's great because again you can also do it at home
