N Power bill for vacent home

This morning i have recieved an N power elec bill for £750 for aproperty of mine that is empty.
The bill is for elec from April 2008 - Oct 2008. My property has been vacent since 2nd April and it remains that way today. I have had some decorating work carried out during this period but this only took up 3-4 weeks. I did also give NPower a meter reading when the property became vacent.
When i spoke to the rude N Power representative earlier i was informed that full payment was to be made within 14 days or a ccj would be issued! After argueing the fact the the property is empty i was told that perhaps i had left a light on!
Please can someone tell me wether a £750 bill seems resonable for a term of 7 months at a property that has had no one staying there.

I am a little confused as to what to do as N Power are bullying me into paying them but it seems far to high?

Any advice would be welcome

First thing you need to do is to read the meter.

Do you have the readings from April, from before the work was started, after the work was completed? Are pre April bills estimated?

Edit: oops, sorry. You do have readings. So used to silly postings from people who regard meters as unfathomable arcane objects I missed that. Ignore me.

Guess who's the only place that has the power to issue a County Court Judgement ;)

Check the readings on the bill to the readings from the meter; fortunately you did read it back in April. If the meter readings are correct, then you probably owe the money (unless you have evidence to suggest the meter is faulty)

Sounds possible that the tenants did the dirty on you and gave a low reading.....

What about the present reading on the bill, is that estimated?

As said above, probability No 1 is your tenants made a 'mistake' with the readings.

No2 is that current reading is estimated on the assumption that the house is occupied.
