Extended warranty - where to buy?

The warranty on my 3 year old VW expires today so I called them for a quote for an extended warranty and was told it would be £439 for the 'unlimited mileage' option or £409 for '15,000 mileage' option. Both seem quite steep and are more than I can afford at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • They sound pretty cheap, allthough i would wait until tititherev comes on, he will probably say the exteneded warranty is not needed and give reasons etc

You would be a fool not to pay the extra £30!

check what it covers but proper manurfacturers warenties are the IMo only ones worth anyhting but be careful its not a dealers bough one not a proper manurfacturer's one

as for value hum its a way of lowering risk.

personaly it depends IMo on your circumstances if you have a good mechnaic you know who could help if it goes wrong etc then don't bother if you don't or need the security of it then get it

Tesco now offers Car Warranty plans, they seem much more competitive than what you've been quoted:

Tesco has quoted me £199 for the 'Value' plan so giving this some thought. Thanks for all the advice.
  • Its a waste of money. Don't bother, they never pay out.

Why do you say this? Have you personal experience of failure to pay out? I ask as I'm thinking about changing my high mileage diesel for something newer but out of manufacturer's warranty.
  • Well I sell em at:

    £180: 12 months

    £240: 24 months

£310 for 36 months. Parts and labour cover. To use at any VAT reg'd garage across the UK...

I've seen enough of them to know how usless most of them are even the good ones have enough weeknesses only ones I'd recomend are the uk manin dealers ones with manurfacturing backing which cost more but there is good reason

Because the majority of things that'll fail are classed as "consumables". I did buy an old Sierra once where the guy had been lucky enough to get a brand new engine out of a warranty but I expect that was the exception that proves the rule.

What do you call high mileage? 100,000 miles is just about run in.
