wedding on a budget

lots of us have used Landy or Milly for dresses. If you don't want a traditional wedding dress there will be lots of party prom dresses around in January in the sales.
Mine was made to measure for under £100 and there was no way anyone could tell and the best man refused to believe me :rotfl:.
mind you I'm almost a foot shorter then you are
. Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

congratulations to you
I am getting married too after nearly 12 years together, and we are doing it on a budget too, too many other things to pay and buy lol !
I would try milly bridal or landy bridal, I have picked my dress and bridesmaid dresses from there, I will order them in March, when hopefully Ive lost a bit more weight
I have picked up loads of tips from these forums, and got a few things from ebay, so it defo can be done on the cheap !Little Miss Sparkles :A

Hi
Thank you all for your wise words, i really appreacate them.
Just to let you know how tight our budget is we are only have a max of £2500 to spend!!!
Both my partner and i work full time ( he is doing 14hrs ) so we are bringing in all the money we can. We dont have anything that we could sell ( i have ransaked the house ) so thats out the window.
The son has even offered to go with out his pocket money (£3per week ) just so mummy can look like a princess for the day!! Bless i love my family sooo much.
Guess its going to be another uphill struggle for us and if i have to forgo my princess for a day so be it.
If anyone hears or finds anything that could help i would be sooooo gratefull.
Again thank you all

Wow lilmrsmullen you have def given me something to think about.
Unfortuantly we are compleatly on our own with this wedding so we cannot ask family to help us out.
Hopefully i will find my dream dress and beable to afford it.

This is what I have found in the past few days while I have been home sick.
Sample sales-http://www.pronuptia-centrallondon.co.uk/pages/bride.aspx This Thursday-Sunday
Used dress sites, I'm not sure if all will ship to the UK. I am American so I will just have my dress shipped to my parents house if I go this route.

I am also considering Landy or Milly as well as other sites in China.
Good luck!0 -

Hi,
That is our exact budget too! We have a young daughter and a mortgage so money is very tight too - even this budget is going to be a struggle! I've saved over £200 (from what we'd budgeted per item) on the things we have bought so far and hope to keep the savings up!!
Bless your son, that is such a selfless thing to offer
I've ordered my dress from Landy Bridal on eBay, she's in China (and, may I add, 90%+ dresses in UK Bridal shops ORDER THEIR DRESSES FROM CHINA and whack up the price hideously!!) I'm confident it'll be beautiful as it is being made from a pic of my PERFECT dress and all the positive experiences the brides to be etc on here have had made me confident about getting it from there. Oh, and it cost me £75 - WITH P&P!!!
sososo happy
What I'm getting at is, if you know what dress you want, send them a pic and get a quote (if you went down that route), as you'd be suprised at what you could afford without compromising on your princess dress
Hope this helps

I wish we had a budget of £2500!!;)
Six weeks to go:eek: and we've spent around £650 with a few more bits to sort out:j
They'll be plenty of sales coming up to look for dress, accessories, etc etc and if you spread the cost over a few months it wont seem as bad
Good luck!BLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
Oh my goodness, how? I thought we were pushing it with ours lol! And it's gone UP from £2000 to £2500!!! Nearly half our budget is going on food, wine with meal (and sparkling for toasting) and the reception venue! But we did say we wanted to provide some booze, so I can't really complain
Well, I hope I can bring the total cost down to £2000 max - wish me luck
My problems are -
FIVE bridesmaids (i know, what was I thinking?!?!?) plus DD as flowergirl - will have to buy f/g dress and buy fabric for b/m dresses as cant find any simple enough and enough of them!!
My wide feet - can't find cheap silver sandals on eBay yet!
The thought of a ton of thankyou gifts (well, the price of them!)
FLOWERS!! - My bouquet, 5 bridesmaids posies, flowergirl basket or flower wand - I don't know whether to go for silk or foam (which is best??), but whatever I decide, I realise it'll cost well over my £100 budget for flowers, and I haven't even THOUGHT about buttonholes - AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!! Yes I'm finally getting stressed about the wedding
Any money saving tips would be greatly appreciated!!0 -

have you looked at landy for the bm dresses ? Im getting mine from there, and they have lots of choice. Also have a look on ebay for your daughters flower girl dress, again there are loads.
Have you had a look at the stickys on how to make your own flowers on here ? I am going to have a bash at making my own, I want cala lillies, someting very simple. I have watched loads of videos on youtube too, so hopefully I will be ok
I am only buying my bridesmaids and best man thank you gifts, and my daughters who will be flower girls, they will all probably get a silver necklace, and best man a watch, I am not buying for parents, as my parents have been a nightmare, they havent even spoken to me about the wedding ! And ohs parents havent really done anything, so nothing to say thanks for really.
About your shoes, why dont you have a look in new look ? They do wider fit, and they have a good sale on at the moment.Little Miss Sparkles :A

My tip would be to think about what you actually want at your wedding - see if there is anything where the amount you want it DOESN'T outweigh the cost of it!
For example, I won't be having buttonholes... (the last wedding I went to half of them fell off and some guests were worried about spoiling their good clothes!).
How traditional a dress do you want? How about a prom dress instead of a 'wedding' dress? Perhaps you could hire one?
Also someone has already mentioned it but monsoon does wedding dresses and I have seen them in both the summer and xmas/jan sales. Perhaps try them on now to see if they will be long enough and hold out for the sale? Alternatively, I know years ago some store cards had some special protection thing you could have where if the item went in the sale within a certain amount of time you could claim the difference back (I don't know if Monsoon does this though)0
