Should I buy a warranty for Rover 75?
Just bought a nearly new rover 75 connoiseur 1.8 se. 54 model. 12,000 miles. Couldn't resist the price of £7995. Should I buy a separate warranty.I've read about head gasket problems, but not sure if they apply to this model. Is warranty direct the best/ cheapest option? Also heard that some warranty companies try and get out of paying by hiding under the fair wear and tear clause. Is this so? Please help. Thanks

Personally I'd just find a decent independant garage and pay for any jobs that need doing when they need doing. The K series engines suffer from head gasket problems, but this can be avoided if the coolant is maintained properly and the engine is allowed to warm up. It's the Freeloaders with lots of short journeys that really suffer and the problem is (as far as I understand) related to put a lot of load onto a cold engine so it then gets hot quickly. The cooling system design doesn't help, some people move the thermostat.
What sort of annual rate do you pay for a warranty?Happy chappy0 -
Self insure it the warranty will cost you at least £300. warranty direct seem to be the best of them. This signature is not mine!0

There are a few forum sites on the net which have ex Rover personnel posting on them. I bought a 75 v8 a few months back and have had some good tips from the email list via this liink: http://r75.sytes.net/
Also, there's an owners club started up which will have dealership details for servicing etc. Site here: http://www.75andztclub.com/
You've bought a bargain, like me. Enjoy it!0 -
Thanks for all the help. A warranty costs about £250 - £300. I think I may go with that for peace of mind.0

£250- £300 covers how long? If it's only a year then I'd just put the £300 into a high interest account.Happy chappy0

Just found this thread searching for Rover 75 info.
I used to have a Vauxhall Senator 24v until I wrote it off some years back. Great car, but what made it even better was the owners club.
So many knowledgable and helpful people.
Now I know there is a 75 community, I think the scales have tipped firmly in favour of the 75 as my next car.
Thanks for the links, although I can't get into the forums at the moment.
Are they still running?

A friend of mine has a 45 and bought a warranty with it. Every problem has been declared as wear and tear despite it only having 8000 miles on it. I suspect you'd be wasting your money. What goes around - comes around0
