New Barclaycard/Goldfish Card - paypass

Recently got my new Barclaycard/Goldfish Credit Card after spending over £2 on their 0844 phoneline for a replacement after non-delivery of the first one  .

Not happy as I was over a week without the use of a card and unable to access my points on their website  .

Now I've got the card, I see it has a paypass facility - something I did not have before  .

Have looked at the MasterCard paypass site ('cos there's nothing on the Barclaycard site that I can see, and there was nothing in the bumph that came with the card) to see if there are any transaction charges incurred when using paypass. Their site says that charges are down to the card provider.

Has anyone used this facility and incurred charges?

  • I posted here because it is a money saving forum :money: and other than my broadband cost, it is free to post :D .

For various reasons, I have already needed to make some phone calls to Barclaycard's 0844 number, which have set me back several GPBs, often because I have to wait in a queue for their Indian call centre, once for twenty minutes  .

Use saynoto0870 to get a local or freephone number.

Fair point, I understand that frustration. ;)

So much so that I have now got a MBNA Platinum card - nice friendly call centre in Chester  . Once I've got my vouchers from my points, I may dump Barclaycard.

if you can get in to a branch of barclays they have a service phone that you can use for bank buisiness and it is a free call,
i had to use it today for a problem that i had and there was no waiting on hold and no indian call centre,
  • I used mine, no charge. It really is quite impressive, although it took the girl in the take away ages to figure out how to use the machine, after that the authorisation was instant!

It appears on your statement with a * next to it, but otherwise is the same as any other transaction, so no charge from barclaycard.
  • Thanks baccyman for the heads up. I bank with Abbey and have used their in-branch free-phone service for stuff I could not do online to avoid their 0845 charges. I did not realise that Barclays would do the same.

Thanks simongregson for your useful feedback.

I may hold on to my new card now rather than dumping it :)
