Funeral costs

Hi,

My brother has recently passed away, and my mother has had to take responsibility for the funeral. As my mother is currently receiving benefits (not sure which ones) can she get help with the cost of the funeral other than from the Social fund, as that by its self doesn’t nearly meet all the costs.
My sister and I have not been in contact with my brother for over 10 years and are estranged, but will this have any impact on what benefits she would receive

Thanks in advance

The benefits that are available go nowhere near covering the full cost even if she gets them all. Social funds need to be repaid as well.

Perhaps you and your sister should step up to help your mother, regardless of your opinion of your brother. Do it for her, not for him.

Funeral grants do not need to repaid, but if there is anything in the estate this will be deducted.

The OP did talk about the money coming from the Social Fund, not a funeral grant.
