Good effort by the flight crew for getting the aircraft down with a mangled engine and dodgy landing gear.0

Its strange, i've seen bird strikes do a lot of damage to a plane but I've never seen the undercarage rip off due to a birdstrike. They must have landed with a pretty big bump to cause that damage.0

I wondered about that. Made me think that perhaps the gear was on its way down when the birds struck.
Some of the comments on the Daily Mail website make me chuckle. "Did they get vets for the birds..." :rotfl:
I suspect after being hit at 250kt, there wouldn't be much bird left.0 -

With a single engined landing like that, the aircraft is going to approach with a lot of yaw, which will have to be kicked off with the rudder just before touch down. This would be even worse with a strong crosswind. Its possible that the left hand undercarriage hit the runway first at an extreme angle.
I don't think the birdstrike would have collapsed the LH leg. The aircraft is travelling quite slowly when the gear is lowered and is sturdy enough to take a bird or two.0 -
The gear collapsed due to a heavy landing because originally they tried to go around but had insufficient power and so had to force the plane down in the remaining runway (apparently). It seems that birds went down both engines.
Nice work on the part of the crew.Timmay!0 -

Yeah, I thought it must have been something like that.0
