Full time mum - Jury service!

  • I feel I need to apologise. My post has been completly taken wrongly and I am so sorry. I do not intend anyone to commit fraud  !!!

The op had not said what (or if) she was going to pay the relative and the second poster said she should ask for what she would ACTUALLY pay them. I then suggested a way of finding out a correct amount as the op had asked for and I also said she should make sure she pays the relative - just in case she wasn't planning too, which the second poster seemed to suggest.

SORRY! i will leave the thread now...:o

    £25 a least a day
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

    Wouldn't that be per child?
I'd be looking at £4ph for my one with the childminder.

I keep coming back to my original point that surely the OP should ask the relative what payment is wanted and then claim for that. What a childminder or a nursery charges still seems to me to be irrelevant here as she's not using them!

Very true, I would of thought most relatives would not need to be payed but then if it's for quite a while I think it would be courteous for the OP to give something, I would if i was me.

Trouble is if it were me going on jury service (which could last awhile) and it were my mother caring for my children for example, I'm sure she would say she didn't want paying and she wouldn't have a clue how much to ask for anyway but I would want to pay her but I wouldn't really know how much either hence why the OP has posed the question I think?
  • Have you considered not doing the jury service, I got called up when I had two small children, I just told them I couldn't do it, they were fine about it.

    MrsBez, as post 14 shows

maximum you can claim for childminding comes under financial loss figures, just to give you an idea

    Allowances for jurors

Jurors can claim three types of allowances from the court when they are completing jury service:
    • travel
    • subsistence
    • financial loss.
The rates payable to jurors are contained in an allowances sheet (PDF) sent to you if you are summoned for jury service
The financial loss allowance may cover:
    • loss of earnings or benefits
    • fees paid to carers or child minders
    • or other payments which you have had to make as a direct result of jury service.
Receipts of proof of payment should be provided for these claims. If you are unsure about what is acceptable, please ask the court where you will be doing your jury service.
