I have been with HSBC for 16 years but find them very unhelpful at dealing with questions or account-related tasks so I want to apply for a new current account and credit card somewhere else. I will probably keep HSBC open due to the length of time I have been with them.
My circumstances are this: I left my job 6 months ago and accrued a £1200 overdraft (within my limit). I have started a part time job £7000k a year. I want a current account that has online banking and good customer service, ideally in the UK. I want to apply for a 0% balance transfer credit card to manage my repayment of the overdraft but I am worried that I would be rejected due to my debt and low income. Who could I try? How long should I be on the payroll before applying? By the way, my credit history is very good.
Please dont suggest Alliance and Leicester as I have a personal loan with them and am trying to reclaim my mis-sold PPI. That should probably be another thread, they are being unhelpful too :-(

well you could get an account anywhere you chose really, but i would be very careful about taking your wages out of the HSBC i read that they just take your OD of you. Good on-line banking, with good customer service i would say Smile which are part of the co-op.0
