Tax Credits & Council Tax query?

Hi currently I have a joint claim for Tax credits. We receive £50pm not wtc and no childcare help.
I was looking today on entitledto website for information about claiming as a single person. It shows I could get Tax credit at £50pw and wtc at £70pw.
Because this would be £120+ per week it comes up saying I would also be entitled to Council tax benefit.

Have I filled the form incorrectly?

My circumstances are;
Property owned on a mortgage (my name only)
Single person discount of Council Tax = £85 per month
No other benefits claimed. Apart from child benefit £18.80
Work 30+ hours per week, Salary before deductions = £20,500 per year
No other income ~ probably won't get maintenance unless I fight through csa.
1 child born ??/??/2007 childcare costs £125 per week

Can someone who knows the site confirm where I have gone wrong please.
Thanks

  • Bump,

Does anyone know if it is correct that you could claim Council tax benefit because of the CTC award.

    Thanks
  • you dont have to be on benefits to get council tax benefit. anyone on a low income can claim. ask them for a claim form, they can only say yes or no. your income from tax credits is counted as just that - income and i dont believe that it gives you automatic entitlement. however, a low income may.xx

    I doubt you'd qualify.

My DD is a single mother, earning considerably less than you (about £13k/year for 40 hours a week before deductions) and paying child care for 2 children. She does get WTC (including 80% of her child-care costs), but doesn't get any help with her Council Tax (other than the 25% discount for being a single adult occupancy)

  • That's what I thought. I must have filled in the form incorrectly somewhere.
I'll try filling it in again later. Thanks to you both

TotallyBroke - you could always fill in a claim form to see, worse they can say is no, my friend filled it in thinking she wouldn't get anything and I think they gave her £5 a week, isn't a lot but it helps and added up over the year £260 is a good amount off the bill.

Are you single or not ?
Your first line says a 'joint tax credits claim', yet you then mention single person amounts on entitledto.co.uk ?
    Confused

Looks as though OP is seperating/ed as lower down she says unlikely to get maintenance unless pushes through CSA.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

  • Yes sorry I am now single (as of today) was playing around with the calculators.
I did it again today and it came up the same, that I am entitled to full council tax rebate and £127 in ctc and wtc. I put in the council tax amount to what it would be on single person discount.
So will definitely putting in for it. £85 per month to save is fantastic.
