Favourite Xmas present in Japan, when it went into deep recession and "lost 10 years", was a floor safe. Somewhere to keep your money that did not charge you for doing so.

Those of you who have noticed my postings about the thrills and spills of sorting out the estate of the late Mr Dog, will know that I took 6 months to get to the stage of applying for probate and the powers that be took another 10 weeks to give it to me.
During that time the banks with whom Mr Dog had his savings accounts managed to get the rate of interest down typically to 0.1%.
(You cannot interest rate "tart" when awaiting probate I guess they know that!)
