Thanks everyone. I should point out son is 25 and although he can be a right royal pain, he's past the stage of possible habit or attention coughing iyswim. :)

He's having a hard time himself through sheer lack of sleep. (He does have extra pillows btw, thanks.)

I'm having to tell him to go back up to his room as I just can't listen to him anymore.

I'm off to buy some honey.

Feel a right plank now, aliasojo, thought we were referring to a young child.
Hope he is better soon and you get some peace.
  • I recommend Covonia, its about £2 from any chemist, smells like nail polish remover but stops the coughing.

Don't be daft. :D The way he acts sometimes you'd think he was a two year old anyway. It was a good suggestion for a younger child btw.

I tried Covonia, lilacclaire...it did nothing unfortunately.

I got honey this afternoon so it will be shovelled down his throat several times this evening. (You can't overdose on honey can you? :))

  • I swear by Manuka honey for any coughs or sore throats. Dark Chocolate is also supposed to be beneficial for tickly coughs.

    try cough nurse.

you only take it at night and it has a mild sedative in it to help you sleep. it works a treat.

and just to warn you i have had a cough since august the 15th still going strong!! i was diagnosed with a viral infection then told it was bronchitis so given antibiotics, then told no, the bronchitis has left asthma symptoms. Went for a chest x ray this morning so awaiting the test results now.

They are now looking into the facts that i caught the bug when i was in asia this summer, so want to rule out nasties. little miss divadee now tells everyone i have bird flu  :rotfl:

He may not be doing it to get attention, but honestly, it can become habitual at any age. As someone who has suffered from dry tickly coughs myself, I know that SOMETIMES, as I begin to recover, I can SOMETIMES hold the cough back, and if I do, the intervals between the irrestible urges to cough gradually lengthen. Also I can sometimes suppress coughing with irritating throat clearing. ;) Makes a nice change ...

Anything hot and sweet can help, btw, I'm just off to rant at DS3 for spilling Ribena all over the work surface and not clearing it up!
