I would love to make some silhouettes of my family and was hoping someone can tell me if its possible to convert a suitable photo on the PC? And if its possible how to do it!!!

No, it's an expensive program.
There is an alternative, that isn't quite as intuitive or powerful, but never the less more than adequate to the task in hand.
It's called GIMP

No but you can use it free online at: www.photoshopexpress.com
The best next free to use and download is: Paint.net then the GIMP as previous mentioned.0
