Hi
How much are you looking to spend, I'm saying that because theres some great deals on hd's at the moment, and personally I would never buy a second hand one, when new ones are so cheap. Does it have to be in North East? I've always found the best deals on the internet. http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=195 or you could go to https://www.pricerunner.co.uk and compare prices
Hope this helps

there are a few places, ebuyer, kelkoo to help look etc.
I've had a couple of maxtors go lately, so they have dropped off my list, it might be cause i leave my computer on all the time tho...0 -
I would buy new too, because ebay will be just as high if not higher. https://www.ebuyer.co.uk has similar prices to micro direct, but a bit more choice.0

If you only want a new hard drive because your present one is full, you can stick the new one in as a second drive alongside your old one (connector should already be in place for this). This is very easy to do. This would also save you the hassle of moving all the data from your old HDD to the new one.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

No!!!! Do NOT buy from ebuyer. They might be very cheap but customer service is a concept that appears to be alien to them, judging by some of the comments I have seen in internet newsgroups and websites:- http://www.ebuyersucks.com/
to say nothing of this site:- http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=121569&highlight=ebuyer

I wouldn't rule out Maxtors, but look for manufactures who give a longer warranty. I think Seagate (who have just bought Maxtor) offer a 5 year warranty and Samsung drives are pretty good too. You will struggle to find a drive as small as 80GB now, as they are getting phased out in favour of larger drives.
You could look at Pricrunner, Kelkoo and Computer Prices to find a better price. Remember that whilse moneysaving is good, if you buy cheap you often end up paying twice.

If you're in a rush (for something to do over xmas...) try PCWorld - picked up an 80gb Hitachi this morning - is now whirring away (installed as second disk). If you use the 'collect@store' thingy (order on t'net, pick up and pay in your local store, it'll cost you around £35.
Not sure if this link will work http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1079736984.1135286601@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccehaddgidhkjffcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=5&sm=0&tm=2&sku=867206&category_oid=-25095 if not, start here http://www.pcworld.co.uk/ then go through Data Storage, Hard Disk Drives, OEM Disks - should be the first one.. Note it doesn't show as a 'collect' item in the list, but does if you add to basket or view details.0 -

I always think that they're like the easyjet of the internet. The outcome is just as good, but if anything goes wrong, you're in for it! They do have a telephone number again now at least. Nothing's ever gone wrong for me with them and they are consitently cheap.0 -
Many Thanks for all your help with this subject
Once again this forum has helped a real computer novice.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Local dealer will give a good price - probably as good as PCworld - The main advantage being with the local dealer is - loads of before sales chat from people who fit them every day. Plus the same manufactures warranty.
As said - E buyer - great prices - until it goes wrong. I used to place orders of £2000 £4000 with them and almost every one had an error - sometimes in my favour ! They used to employ clowns in the warehouse I think.
They only reinstated the phone line because of bad publicity. I waited 3 weeks for an email enquiry about a delivery that never happened.qui tacet consentire -
