How many kwh do you use a day/week?

How much did you used to use?

    What's changed?

We are the same, we are with Hydro-Electric and also have a pre pay meter. We also have gas with them too and are £36 month for that. (We have gas central heating/hot water, electricity for everything else.)

We used to be £80 monthly, we're now £140/£160 monthly for electricity. This last week alone we were £37. I phoned the Hydro to ask if it was possible that our meter was faulty as the huge increase seemed to coincide with when our meter got changed last. They asked for readings and I had to phone again the following day to do the same but they said it was accurate and we were just using that amount. I know someone else who did the same and was told the same too.

Certain LCD tv's are guilty of using a lot of electricity (regardless of what the manufacturer says). They dont have a power saving setting for no reason. Have you bought any new appliances lately?

Also, have you got gaming kids? If my OH and son stay up late xboxing, that can have a noticeable effect on how fast the money goes down too.

I wondered how the meter had gone down so fast when everyone was supposedly in bed until I discoved the late night gaming sessions.

If you find any reason in particular for the high costs, post back will you? It might help me too.

I monitor daily usage and ours is noticeably lower when the 14-23 year olds are out all day! We never have TV on during day but they have that and Xbox on all the time. Playstation3 is worse, apparently.

We have one of those too. Might have to monitor electricity use for a day with nothing on except normal things and also a day when gaming things are on to get an actual cost figure. That'll please them, lol.

I used one of those plug in monitors but got the PS3 info here:

I have forbidden mine to buy one. They have a wii which, according to that site, is cheaper to run but chief gamer prefers xbox.
