Paying for flights in foreign currency

While trawling through various sites for flights from Mumbai to Goa. I found that the cheapest was one that gave the price in rupees Go Air which came to 6208 rupees which equates to app £84.Would i be correct in assuming that i will be paying an extra 2.75% for conversion which makes it £86 app.On sites where the price is in £'s the cost is nearer £133. My question is are there any catches where the price is quoted in rupees or am i just missing out the middle men. Thanks in advance

I booked before in rupees using my credit card I am sure I just paid the conversion rate.No extra charges.Just showed up as rupees and converted pound rate. As I had it worked out approx in pounds and it was near enough the price I expected to pay.Might be slight fluctuation with exchange rate.
  • thanks nico i thought that would be the case

    Beware!

Many airlines and hotels in India discriminate between Indians and foreigners. It is possible that the fare you have seen is only available to Indians resident in India. If so, you might be forced to buy a new ticket when you attempt to check in for your flight.
  • ok i'll e-mail them and check it out

OK, but that is an international journey. I think that the price discrimination in India only applies to domestic travel.

(There has been some talk of making it illegal, but I doubt whether that has come into effect yet.)
  • After contacting both Cleartrip and Travelocity.in about this subject and explaining that i was a british passport holder travelling from the UK to Mumbai then wanting to go from mumbai to Goa they both said it was perfectly ok. I ended up with two flights at a cost of 5626 ind rupees (£75) instead of $206(£140).So its just some of them trying it on. I've got a print out of the cleartrip answere to my question

Yes, I see what you are doing, and it makes perfect sense PROVIDING your flight to Mumbai arrives OK to make the connection .
Your carrier from UK to India doesnt have any further obligations really.

Im researching the same journey for myself for Easter, and am amazed at the differential between booking sites.

Travelocity and/ or Lastminute.com (same company) (Last Minute is avail on quidco) seem to be the best I can find on the UK to Goa route, via Mumbai (or Dehli- who cares)
That way its "packaged" and you dont have to worry about missed flights etc
  • I got a good deal back in July flying BA £350 return so hopefully i'll be ok and if it goes tits up i can change the flight at an hours notice the only bugbear is that while BA's luggage allowance is 23kgs GoAir's allowance is 15kgs but then its only 75 rupees (£1)per kg. Also i found that Travelocity.in was a lot cheaper than Travelocity.com.Are you flying via mumbai or delhi for a reason and how long are you going for because there are so v. cheap charter flights straight to Goa

Charters only really fly from Manchester or London to GOA, and price wise, e can do it for less (with stops) from Edinburgh anyway.
Last Minute (again )- really wipe the floor with the packaging of this route, the only problem being, its dropped 100 GBP for world traveller + in the last month;.

Thats 25% more than econ. Do I book now ? or wait for a further fall , say to 10/15 %
