I have a jar of ASDA 5p curry sauce that I am using today in the slow cooker - not sure what to expect but don't have the ingredients to make my own!

The Asda sauce is ok, just lacking a little something for my tast buds. Great to use as a base for a curry though, ot it was until they put it up to 26p.

    it's a tesco value one :)

Not all Tesco stores stock it (ours doesn't and the nearest is on the mainland!), and from what I hear its gone up in price by around 400-500%! No Asda either so cannot comment on that one.
Home made is fine (recipes on here) or one from one of the Patak's pastes for a treat (approx £1.80 per jar, give a good base for 4 portions, to which you only need to add some water, cream/coconut milk and whatever meat/veg you like!).
Also are some of the very cheap ones not meant for pouring over chips (a la chips n curry sauce), instead of making a proper curry ?

  • Def home made. tesco value curry sauce and sweet and sour both tasted rubbish to me and OH. Curry I added soy sauce and onions and still didn't save it!
If you are lookin for something quick get curry paste from chinese supermarket, our butcher also sells the paste. It's not expensive and just needs heated with water. Goldfish is the brand I use. Or is youy have time the recipies on the index are good.
  • I buy this sauce all the time from Sainsburys but, have to jazz it up a bit,

Slice and fry whole onion in olive oil (Any othere oil you choses)
add a t.spoon of curry powder
    add 4 diced chicken breasts
add 1 desert spoon of tandori pasta and cook until chicken is cooked
add jar of sainsburys curry sauce and simmer for about 25 mins
add hand full of chopped corriander

serve with rice of you choice

Really yummy tea fo rvery little cost and effort

I was in Sainsbobs yesterday at Hempstead Vally in Gillingham, and noticed it had leapt up to 23p a jar.
I usually make my own though, I have a curry cooking at the moment for my DD and family. I always have to slosh a dollop of cream in afterwards to 'cool' it a bit for them as I prefer mine a bit more lively. I did try it a few months ago and it wasn't bad, but I still had to put a bit more curry powder in as it was a bit bland. but not bad value I suppose if you could still buy it at 5p :D
  • Mine's (Asda 6p jar) cooking at the moment - I added a dollop of apricot jam, a handful of peanuts, some leftover chicken and lots of vegetables. I think I'll stir in a touch of cream right before serving.

I tasted it a minute ago and it was really nice.

The last jar I bought was on the 31st October.

I just used it as a base and add more flavours to it.
