Hello
I've finally given up on my petrol strimmer - it is just so hard to start up. I've decided to buy an electric one. Started to look and can't believe how many on the market and all confusing - power etc.
I'd like a decent one - can anyone recommend one and also tell me the power that goes with the model?
Many thanks
Terri

Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

Sorry - you are out of luck. I've given myself a good talking too, I'm going to get the petrol one serviced and learn the proper knack on starting it up.
Once it's going - it's brilliant - just have to keep reminding myself that every time I pull at that cord!0 -
Saw your post and had to laugh - I have had electric (cable), petrol, and cordless.
Cable was ok but just not practical think it lasted a season.
Petrol was a very cheap Mcullogh entry level (about £40 in the sale) one from argos and when it worked it was fantastic but to be honest had same issues as you, cable sticking, seizing up, etc just to much hassle for the 3 or 4 times a year i used it so it went back for full refund.
Then bought black and decker cordless and has done the job for me pretty well. If I had a big garden or an allotment I would definately say petrol but buy a decent one and keep it serviced. If its a smaller garden used a couple of times a season then cordless is fine - I get 30-40 minutes off a charge which for a medium size garden is fine.0 -

You beat me to itIf you've had a petrol one - the electric ones are a nightmare. Mainly underpowered and the cables have a perverse life of their own. It's like being trailed by the OH .... forever getting in the way.
When mine started being awkward to start (the strimmer - not the OH) .... the place I bought it from just poked a large build up of carbon from the exhaust .... told me to stop putting too much oil in the petrol and sent me home! It's never looked back since and I do 100m of roadside verge, as well as the garden, once I'm in the mood.
But if you're tempted out onto the verge - you keep your mouth shut, from September, whilst strimming. The hidden slugs, when minced, just come straight up into it - and they're very rubbery and unpalatable. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I do a lot of strimming in my job Mike and these are delicious compared to the dog s**t
Terry just put in a little bit of petrol at a time (just what you need) cos it goes stale after a while and does become a pig to start0 -

Ah .... but my dog always did very very visible ones ..... so I moved it first!
But when the autumn leaves fall ..... it was no longer visible. Hence the reason I never used the lawn mower, after August, with the flip flops on!If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
