Can I print white text using a normal inkjet printer?!

I would like to print white text onto gold paper, does anyone know if this is possible? I have tried googling white inkjet cartridges but havnt found any, so it's not looking very hopeful!

My logic kind of tells me it wouldnt be possible because I cant see how any combination of cyan, magenta and yellow could make white, but Im hoping to be proved wrong!

At a push I could use a white pen in my faithful craft robo, but it is for wedding invitations so it would takes ages to do the amount that I need!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that someone may have a better idea!

No, you can't. Since most people print on white paper, they don't make white ink cartridges. You could try asking at a printing shop/photo shop.

You could print a gold negative image onto white paper, although it would use a huge amount of ink. As crazy580 says taking your design to a printshop will be easier

What a super question ,forgive me its been a quite afternoon.
Went to MS office and opened Word
You can ( as you all know ) change the colour of the text
They provide the option to print in White!! if you cant , why??

    ps must get a life.
  • they also offer the option of flashing text, a bit like xmas lights. Can you suggest an inkjet printer capable of this feature?

It gives me the option to print and I don't even have a printer!

You cant print the colour white. It wouldnt even use any ink as it would just expect the colour of the paper is white. It just leaves it blank where it would be white so instead you just get the colour of the paper.

Get an old black cartridge, flush it out.
Get a white ink refill kit.
    Fill it up.

It might take a few goes to get rid of all the black.

And white ink is probably as rare as hens teeth.

This is at least theoretically possible. Assuming you have the gold paper already, what you need to do is produce the word document using black text, swap the black ink tank in your printer with a white one*, then print it off.

    * This is the tricky part - You'll probably have to make a white ink cartridge youreself. A friend of mine at uni managed it once (using a watery white ink and a paste [titanium oxide, I think?] for brightness,) but it took ages, lots of experimenting. He had a bog standard HP inkjet printer.

So if it was me, I'd take the idea to a high street copy shop, and ask them if it's possible. If they say no (or say yes, for £100's) then you might want to reconsider the design. (sorry!)

  • Lol, you lot make me chuckle!

Actually unrich that isnt a bad idea about refilling an old cartridge as I almost have an empty one and I DO have some white ink. Its not as rare as you might think, it is used for pergamano (parchment craft) and other crafty things. It probably wouldnt be suitable for printing with though lol!

I appreciate all your ideas, and although Im disappointed that it cant realistically be done at least it proves my logic does work!
  • Laura, I assume you are into crafts if you have a craft robo, what about getting some white embossing powder and print onto your gold card in, say, yellow - while the ink is still wet cover with white embossing powder and heat... just an idea, though probably would be as quick using the craft robo!!!
