ipod touch version 1 or 2

iv decided to get my 16yr old son an ipod touch 4 xmas. the 8gb version 1 is reduced at argos to £128. the new version 2 is £169. which should i go for. is it worth paying the extra £40 to get the newer version. i know nothing about ipods

The newer one has external volume buttons and a built in speaker.
It also has a built in games accelerator which makes it act more like a games console (according to an apple employee)0 -
Link below for differences, I'd go for a 2g, also factor in £10-20 for a case, they scratch easily

If your looking for a case, I would recommend the incase slider. Its very good (but quite pricey)0

I like the cheapy plastic/rubber ones. Look a bit tacky, but thin and dont bulge your pocket.0
