NI contributions

my daughter has just got a letter asking if she wants to top up her NI contributions for 2003/2004.

she is in the 3rd year of a degree course and can't afford to pay. Should we pay this for her?

About 3 months ago I got a tax refund of about £560 for 2003/4. I've literally just received a letter saying that I underpaid my NI by £260. Humph - one hand gives; the other takes away.

I believe it will affect my state pension... but I'm 29 now, so by the time I'm 95 (or whatever the retirement age will be) I can't imagine pensions will even exist in their current form.

So I'm not going to reply... gulp... I wonder if I'm doing the right thing..?

This thread might help you work out whether you are or not. Dave, that's the thread I was thinking of when I posted on the other board you posted on.
