Has anyone got experience of these? Or can they recommend one? She thinks she wants a swinging one but what are the gliding ones like?

I have the toys r us one (about to be cleaned again for the imminent arrival of no 3!) and it's great. Came with a thin plastic covered mattress, although I decided to buy a thicker one. I never once used the swinging option. Couldn't see the point. Why, once I've put the baby to bed would I want to stay with him/her rocking them??

Kiddicare have some slightly cheaper ones, though without mattresses. Not sure if you like any of them, they are a little twirly for my taste.

Or, if you like the mothercare one, look on the discount & code board - there is a 10% off code about.

Boots have some, & there will almost certainly be some codes about :)
Or the Anna range at John Lewis is lovely.
  • I have the one in the first link from Mothercare. My son isn't due until Decemember 21st but it has been built up for a few months now. I think it is a very nice crib. There is a peg that you take out to let it swing. It is very sturdy though. It doesnt come with a matress but you can get them from about £10 I think.

Not sure when your friends baby is due but mothercare usually do a great January sale, My brother got his son a britax 1st class rrp £129.99 for £64. 99!! Might not be any use though as its still a few months away! Sorry rambling now! :)
  • I am tempted to wait til the sales but have a feeling that these wont be in the sales. Baby is due end of Jan, but want to get it before hand as something tells me she will be early.

Sooz....I agree about the ones on Kiddicare..the saplings little angel ones just dont float my boat!

I do like the Anna one from John Lewis...takes us slightly over budget.

If I got the toys r us one it would leave us some money for fitted crib sheets

    Ahh too many choices!

Yeah can understand wanting to get it early, I would feel the same I think.

It's a hard choice, if it was for me I would choose the cheaper one, but as a present it's hard!! Choose the one with the best mattress as if it's not a nice mattress she may want a new one anyway!

Or buy the cheaper one and as you say, buy blankets etc to make it look lovely!

There probably isn't much difference in quality but JL have 2 year guarantee and also are very good at exchanging if faulty.... ooh and they do pricematch! Sorry rambling again. Hope you find one soon.

Is she expecting it with a mattress? Or has she asked for a specific type of mattress? Mattresses are so personal, if a crib you like doesn't come with one as standard, I wouldn't buy one. Get the crib, & a set of pink or blue (or yellow) sheets. There are so many different types of mattress, & everyone has a different view on which one they want...foam, coir, sprung, the one with the head cutouts etc.,...then there's the washable cover, the pvc cover, the non pvc cover

  • Shes not very fussy at all about what she has. Im just hoping I get a good quality one that will last through several babies. At the moment I'm now loving the Obaby charlotte glider which is just over budget. She is going to give me a top three from my list, then i will buy and asssemble!

Got mine from a charity shop for £10. It's a Mamas and Papas one. Ebay has loads on sale for very little money, because they're things that are only needed for about 6 months before they become too small. But if you don't want to buy second-hand then I think there are decent new ones around for about £80.

The mothercare crib mattress costs £12, and the fitted sheets are about £7 for a pair - although you could save money by using a regular sheet folded in half or quarters instead.

£10.....what a bargain. I have looked at ebay but they are mainly all pick up only. As its a gift from several of us will get new though.

She does already have a load of flat sheets.......if we have any money left over will buy her a couple of fitted ones for those middle of the night changes!

Im now just waiting for her to come back with her faves......I know which one I love!
