Mint - discrepancy over balance transfers

Hi,

Short story is that I used to use my credit cards in a very un-moneysaving fashion, high interest rates, minimum payments only, cash from the hole in the wall, you name it I did it. But last summer (June 07ish) I sorted them all out, transfering balances to low Life Of Balance rates, and not using my credit cards for purchases at all.

I've only just looked in detail at my statements (as I usually just do everything on line) and have noticed that there's £300 balance being charged at 25% (cash rate)...I called Mint, and they said that I hadn't cleared the balance previous to transfering to the 6.9% LOB. I'm sure I cleared it before, but as I don't keep old statements I haven't got the proof.

Mint say that I can have the old statements, at £3 per statement. Is this a normal price? Does anyone have experience of this sort of thing?

Thanks

With some providers (not sure about Mint, but I think Barclaycard is one), you have to have a statemented zero balance before transferring other balances to the card...otherwise the old balance gets locked in to the negative payment hierarchy.

With regard to your statements, you could make a 'subject access request' and they'll have to send you information about you/your account. I understand the usual response to this is to send your statements...all of them!

    I believe there's a £10 fee payable...and a (up to) 40 day wait.

Thanks YorkshireBoy, I didn't know it had to show zero on a statement. As far as I can remember I paid off the balance, then a week or so later transfered to it...

I'm loathed to pay them any more money to get statements, especially as I'm sure it'll just show what you said. Luckily there's only £500 or so on it, so I'll pay it off over the next few weeks. Beans on toast for me for a while!

Lesson learnt I think, thanks :)
