Junk Mail

I have been getting a fair amount of junk mail and viruses recently some of which were not addressed to me. I took this up with my ISP and got this reply:-

"Additionally you may also want to report the spam via www.spamcop.net. This site (which is not affiliated to our company) will extract the necessary information from the message header, and forward a notification of the abuse the sender's ISP."

Has anyone used "spamcop"? Is it worth the time reporting Spam to them?

Since addresses in most (almost all?) spam emails are spoofed, there's nothing much they could do about it. Just ignore it...

Not forgetting that if a Infected or spurious email is forwarded
it will also contain the original senders IP address and that can help.

I would always send spam off to spamcop so as to assist in making emailing safer for all whether you feel the need to send off or not.

  • Hi
Don't know about spamcop, but I use Mailwasher to block all spam, it really is an excellent program, and the basic version is free

    Hope this helps

or get a free email account at https://www.fastmail.fm

or use an obscure email address, usually yourname_somethingelse with the _ in the name stops the spam!
  • Or you could have a look at this http://www.bluesecurity.com

I've been using it for a while and admittedly haven't seen my spam decrease yet but I like the idea of them complaining about each piece of spam received on my behalf.
  • Go with Mailwasher, you can view your emails on the server before downloading. and delete the rubbish, also it will warn you of known spam I,ve been using it for ages and it is excellent, buy the pro version and you can monitor more than one email account

Mailwasher is a godsend - thankfully, I had been using it for a while 'before it got famous' (ie was sold by the developer - good on him too...), so had the last free version which allowed you to check more than one e-mail account.

Mailwasher for sure. I've used it since it was a freebie trial. Great. Add everything thats rubbish to the domain name blacklist and hey presto your emails will sort themselves out.

We will never stop junk mail, can you stop it coming through your mailbox and the big answer is NO, well there might be ways to cut it down, but there will always be someone that is better off. I suggest that you do not display your email address on your website, insted by adding a form using formmail, this will cut down junk email. Dont ever sign up to free services that dont offer a guarantee that they wont sell on your email. Unless there will be a way to globalally use a junk mail filter on the internet exchanges then we will never get rid of spam. Using multi filters is the best. I use norton inet sec 2005 with the normal outlook 2003 version, also inplace are spam filters on my web hosting account that changes the subject to " *****SPAM*****Get Your Sexy Babe Here " and I set a rule in outlook to send anything with *****SPAM***** in the subject to go strait to the deleted folder. If you getting the same email with same subject then set a rule to delete anything with Sexy babe in thne subject.
    Kind Regards
    Bill
