I've been using my new Dell (Outlet) Inspiron 530 quite happily for a few weeks, but have one slightly niggly problem. I have difficulty in accessing a very small number of sites (http://www.slimdevices.com/ for example) which I used to connect to with ease (and still can from other XP and Linux machines on the same wireless network). The site linked as an example is very slow to load and often times out. MTU settings do you think, or has anyone other ideas?

I removed all the installed protection soon after it arrived, installing Avira, Spybot and POPfile instead.

@Fifer have you tried the Firefox browser. Perhaps you will have more luck in tracking down the problem if you rule out your existing browser by trying another.

Thanks, but I already use Firefox. I'll try Reluctant_spender's utility to see is there's any residue of Dell muck left.

In that case have you tried it in I.E or another browser?

That particular site took ages to display on my machine, but got there in the end.

Could you give us a few more examples that don't work to look for any common features?

It could very well be your ISP's problem too, maybe their DNS servers aren't up to scratch. I know (from horrible experience) that orange just updated their DNS servers, and it didn't go to smoothly.

To rule this out, could try openDNS

Thanks for that. openDNS didn't help https://www.slimdevices.com load any quicker, but it hasn't half helped MSE.

Perhaps SlimDevices are having problems and it's just coincided with my use of the new PC. Ill try the XP laptop again to verify.

Can anyone else try the link in post #1 to see how quickly it load? It's safe, honest.
