Nearly incompatible memory

Hi all

This will be a really stupid question, but I have a 1GB stick of high-density memory that only shows as 512MB as I don't think my motherboard is properly compatible with high-density memory.
Two questions :-
1) Is there any way of getting the motherboard to recognise it as 1GB?
2) If so, how?

    No
In fact your lucky it recognises it at all as most motherboards would just completely reject it

Find out the model number and manufacturer of your motherboard and get the part model for the RAM. Consult the motherboard manufacturers web pages for compatible RAM devices. There may be a bios upgrade to improve the range of compatible devices. There may be preferred slots for differing types of ram.
CPU-ID is a very useful utility to identify motherboard, processor and ram chips.

You might find that your motherboard's chipset doesn't have enough RAS lines to support dual-ranked memory (which is what the 1GB module probably is) in all the slots that are present. Do you have other memory modules fitted? Try taking out the smallest module (or pair of modules, if they need to be installed in matched pairs) and see if that helps.

Tried that - and it still only shows as as 512MB.
Looks like I'm going to have to go to our local computer shop and see if they'll either swap or part-ex it.
