Gas or ceramic hobs which would be best?
Would the ceramic one be prone to scratching.

My ceramic hob is over 20 years old and still looks ok - it's a bit scratched but it's only noticable when you look closely. I don't even use ceramic hob cleaner, just whatever scoury thing i have to hand - I've even used a paint scraper on it to remove burned on messes, although I'm not suggesting anyone try that on a new hob. However, gas hobs are thought to be better as they are so controllable.0

As myrnahaz mentions, gas is far more controllable. I had a ceramic hob for about 6 months in my last house, but whilst it was easy to clean & I liked the look of it, I knew when I had my new kitchen fitted I'd be going for gas.
The choice is probably a personal thing. Some people are more than happy with electric hobs & others like me find it hard to live without a gas hob.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
My ceramic hob is over 15 years old and still looks nearly new. I am careful with it but it is a joy to clean - yes really.
It does take longer to heat up but then retains the heat. I find this really useful if something like potatoes are waiting around for gravy to be ready etc. At this time of year, the hardest part about the big cook-up is getting all the different elements to be ready at the same time and keeping everything hot.
Personally, I would not wish to go back to a gas hob.0 -
I've had gas and ceramic and I'd always go for ceramic. Ok you have to turn it on a few seconds before you need to use it and turn it off so it can continue cooking whilst cooling down but that soon becomes second nature. If it gets messed it's just a wipe ... No removing separate bits like a gas hob.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
I vote for ceramic too. It does not produce moisture as a result of burning gas. If you pay extra for touch control it will be the easiest one to clean. Timer (preferably to all zones) is very useful too.0

I prefer a gas hob.
Especially as where I live we are prone to power cuts, it means I can still cook a family meal on a gas hob.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
