nerja or western algarve

Hello I am in a dilemma as to where to book for our holidays next year. Easy jet flights are out shortly so I want to get booked asap. We have been to Alubufeira the last two years and loved it but wanted a change this year. I thought of Nerja but now my hubby has mentioned another part of the Algarve. I thought about western algarve - Carvoiero/Lagos etc but could really do with some advice on Nerja or Algarve. Also if Nerja I am confused where to stay we want to be about a 10 min walk from the hustle and bustle and about 5min walk to the beach - ideally not a hilly location...

(by the way for ref we have two kids 14 and 12, thought of Nerja cos there is a waterpark, I think and go-karting nearby....)

Many thanks!

Can't comment on Nerja as I've never been but I have been to Carvoeiro many times. I absolutely love it as it's not too big but does have some great beaches & superb restaurants. It's a great base for getting around if you hire a car. There is a water park not too far away. Have a look at http://www.carvoeiro.com/ for ideas of things to do & places to stay. They have a very good forum to ask any questions you might have. Try to stay in the town as it gets a bit more hilly further out.

    Hello,
I have been to Nerja a few times, and was last there in July last year - its a lovely place, I would not hesitate to go back - it can be hilly depending on what part you stay in - please do your research, but it is fabulous town, just been to Alvor and I loved it - beautiful and the people are lovely I think it is slightly cheaper than Nerja for eating out, and there are sime awful 70's apartments near the beach, but I would not hesitate to go back - so it's up to you, anything you want to you I'll try and answer
    Titch :)

Stayed last year at the Plaza caverna Hotel - it was brilliant - in the centre of town and less than a five minute walk to the beach

  • No thanks button so thanks! I have been looking at Lagos any thoughts? This looks to have everything plenty shopping for me and daughter, beach waterpark nearby which the kids love.....
  • Lagos has plenty of restaurants and a nice marina.

How about Alvor. A slightly more traditional Portugese fishing village but still with plenty to do.

About 20 mins from Lagos but also near the waterpark at Carveiro.

There is also a new sports centre / swimming pool at both Lagos & Alvor
