i am disabled, and get dla (low rate care) and incapacity long term. Recently i had to go into hospital, for 10 days and am going to need another week to recover enough to be left alone with my son(5yo).
My husband has had t otake this time off work, as there is nobody else to look after my son, but he is not getting paid.
This means we are without any work income for nearly 3 weeks which is really going to affect our ability to pay the mortgage etc, which comes out of our acount each week.
i know if he was ill there would have been ssp, but i was wondering, if there was anything if its a dependant thats ill and needs care?
thanks for any help

There are three things that I can think of:
(1) Your guy should ask his employer for paid compassionate leave. Usually you would only get this if someone you love dies but it's worth asking. Some big employers are kind hearted enough to give you paid time off for times like this.
(2) He has a right to ask for flexible working hours to care for a child. He must also have worked for your employer for at least 26 weeks for this to be allowed. Although he has the right to ask to work flexibly, the employer doesn't have to agree to it. However, they must give your request serious consideration and have a good business reason if they decide not to agree. Could he change the hours he works to fit in both working and caring?
You can read about this here:

(3) Could he take this time as paid holiday and get paid this way?
I would also ask his company's personnel department and Carers UK for advice. They may know of something I don't:
