What system to buy to play music through amplifer?

I would like some advice please on a system that can store my CDs as MP3s and then allow me to play them on through my HiFi amplifer using phono connections. I would need to select the tracks via the storage device and wondered if there was anyone who could help me select the best one?

I have over 200 CDs.

"Best one" is probably a piece of string question.

One that works for me in various places is a simple iPod with 400+ albums on it and a SendStation PocketDocket to hook it up to both the Hifi and the car radio. Sound quality is good (well, good enough once I bumped up the bit rate for the conversion) and it Just Works, which kind of appeals as I spend too much time swearing at computers as is.

Have a look at the Brennen JB7 or the Cambridge Audio Music Server. More pricey is the Naim HDX.

If you're happy to keep the music on a PC/laptop, then dedicated music streamers like the Slimdevices Squeezebox are good.

I'll second the Squeezebox or Duet by Slim Devices. I've been using Squeezeboxen and realted products for years. No problems and excelllent quality plus a fantastic on line support forum community.
