Don't go expecting to see the lights - they are unpredictable and you could spend several weeks somewhere and still not see them

I saw them in Alaska several nights in a row during a September. I think I was just lucky. Make sure you go somewhere to see them that there is plenty to do rather than just going to see them, there's no guarantee.

  • We went to Iceland the weekend after Icesave collapsed (Icelandair package - booked in July). Not brilliant for us (we both had our ISAs with them  ) but the Northern Lights did put on a fantastic show for us, just outside Reyjyavik.

All in all, it was one of the best weekends away we've ever had. Iceland is a lot cheaper these days, too!
