My 'hypothetical' question would be, the house next door would be up for sale. It is a 2 bed house. Is it possible to buy the house next door and then knock through so we would get our 5 bed from the 2 houses [forget about doing extension]. Yes, perfectly possible as we've just done the same with our end-of-terrace-house.

    1) is is possible to do that so the 2 houses would become 1 and how would that work with the numbering of the houses as 1 number would dissappear. Your Local Authority have an Officer who deals with postal addresses and will allocate you a number. I asked for our original one and after a bit of arguing, got it.

    2) If we decided to sell years later how would that affect it? would we have to sell as 2 houses etc by putting up the wall again?? Depends on your local market but will probably be worth more as two houses. We've done a minimal job on ours, just a couple or doorways linking & no removal of stairways, so it can be re-converted easily.
It might be "unique" but it suites us.

Would you please be able to tell us what you did about the utilities?
Are the properties mortgaged? Has that caused a caused a problem, or will it do if you want to rejoin them in the future?
We really want to do the same, but are quite stuck on finding information on how to do it, especially the fine details!

The treasure of the larger accommodation would be lower than the two separate houses. On top of that there is the time/cost/mess to regularise start to do it. The easiest way would be to save them differentiate, pay two lots of council tax and everything ... and virtuous blast a nursery on the position connection them (believe it or not I saw an true developer do this on one of the TV belongings shows because the houses were registered and they couldn't change how they looked/were stacked or arranged out.
