Dla????

Hi. Im new to this forum and im after a little bit of advice.

On the advice from a friend, i submitted a claim for DLA (cant remember its new name)

Im currently unemployed and 16 weeks pregnant.

Sadly last yr my daughter was stillborn and ever since i have been struggling. A few bouts of depression have taken hold and currently im become a bit of a hermit.

I live with my partner who works and my other daughter.

I was working up until July when i went on the sick because it was the anniversary of my daughters death.

I found out i was pregnant this August and decided for my own sanity to give up my job.

Anyway im rambling.

What i want to know if any1 thinks im entitled to DLA, i have an appt with the doctor on Wed and im going to request a sick note as i have been told i need 1 to submit a dla claim.

I dont know what to say to the doctor and wil the DWP decline my claim.

Any thoughts will be very much appreciated.

Victoria

DLA (disability living allowance) hasn't changed it's name

IB (incapacity benefit) has become ESA (employment and support allowance)

sounds like the latter you should be claiming, unless you're trying for the former for mental conditions (and I don't mean that nastily, but I'm guessing that's what they'd class the conditions you describe as)

Thanks, thats what the DWP said on the phone when they called back.

She said i wud be better submitting a claim for ESA. I just thought it was the new name for DLA.

    Many thanks.

    Welcome to MSE Victoria,

ESA is new to all of us at the mo, but there is some very useful info in this thread, which also links to the govt info on how it works. Hopefully it will be simpler in practice than it sounds!

Have a read and if you have any questions we'll be happy to help x
