Received IB50 questionaire in the post..

Hi,
I've received the IB medical questionaire in the post as I have already received an incapacity benefit payment.
I'd like to stay on benefits at the moment as i am still recovering from surgery, although I can walk and put weight on my operated ankle.
The letter says please send this back as soon as possible but no later than 20th December. The questionaire says Do not delay in sending this back or you could lose money.
I think if I send it back now they will ask me to have a medical and they will say that I can walk on it etc so I can work, but I dont feel strong enough yet.
My question is should I wait till as near the 20th December to send this form so I will have some money coming in on the run up to Christmas ?
Any help would be great.
Danny

Virtually everybody on IB has an IB50 at some point. My husband is at the moment awaiting the results from his third one, having been on IB since 2004.
You may or may not have to have a medical, no-one can tell you this other than the decision-maker for the DWP.
Your Benefit will not be stopped whilst the decision on your claim is being made and it can take two-three months.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Thanks for your reply,
Are you saying I should just send it off as soon as possible or delay ?
Thanks.0 -
It is up to you when you return the IB50. If you leave it to the last minute- 19 Dec- it may not get to JCP on time.0

In many areas there are long delays between the jc+ receiving your IB50 and them forwarding it to medical services where they decide if you need a medical, mine took 17 weeks at the beginning of this year
Meanwhile as sevendayweekend said they will continue to pay your incapacity benefit0 -
As long as you return it by the date that is OK, but don't delay too much so that it doesn't get there in time - it can take a while to get logged on to the DWP's system - I personally would post it at least two weeks before, certainly in the run-up to Christmas.
They received my husband's IB50 on 12 th August and he has heard nothing yet.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Hi Danny
I recieve this form around the same time each year. If you do not send it back they will send you a reminder letter in the post with a new deadline of around 2 weeks. This is pretty standard practice as there are many reasons as to why it has not been returned. People may forget to send it back or they may not have recieved it in the first place or they have posted it back but its not been recieved by the DSS. They wont stop your money at this stage but don't ignore the reminder letter or they will definately stop your benefit. This should extend the deadline into January. Hope this is OK.0
